Yanek Mieczkowski (Ph.D., Columbia University) is a University Professor and Director of the Theodore Roosevelt School at Long Island University.  He is the author of Eisenhower's Sputnik Moment:  The Race for Space and World Prestige (Cornell University Press, 2013) and Gerald Ford and the Challenges of the 1970s (University Press of Kentucky, 2005).  Dr. Mieczkowski's popular reference work, The Routledge Historical Atlas of Presidential Elections (Routledge Press), first published in 2001, will appear in a new second edition in December 2020.  Dr. Mieczkowski has written more than forty biographies for Oxford University Press's The American National Biography, and he has also contributed articles and op-ed essays to the History News Network, Newsday, The Orlando Sentinel, Florida Today,World Book Encyclopedia, WWII History, and American History magazine.  Dr. Mieczkowski has appeared as a commentator on ABC News, CNN, PBS, C-SPAN, The History Channel, Richard French Live, and other television and radio stations.  He has also served as a consultant to the Dwight D. Eisenhower and Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museums.  For fourteen years, Dr. Mieczkowski worked as a Reader for the AP US History Exam, serving as an Exam Leader, and he also chaired the College Level Equivalency Program (CLEP) Committee and served on the College Board History Academic Advisory Committee. Prior to joining the Long Island University faculty, Dr. Mieczkowski was Professor and History Department Chair for nineteen years at New York's Dowling College, until its 2016 closure.  He is a native of Ithaca, New York and an alumnus of Ithaca High School.
