After documenting the decline of public trust in higher education, Professor Altschuler will provide a candid analysis of the hot-button issues, including costs; allegations of "woke" indoctrination and the need for viewpoint diversity; treatment of protests and antisemitism; abolition of the Department of Education.
Glenn Altschuler is an American writer, university-level educator, administrator, and professor at Cornell University, where he is the Thomas and Dorothy Litwin Emeritus Professor of American Studies and a Weiss Presidential Fellow.
Altschuler has taught large lecture courses in American popular culture and has been a strong advocate for the value of humanities and for high-quality undergraduate teaching and advising. He is a subject-matter expert on Popular Culture, Politics, and Higher Education in the United States. He is also the co-author (with Isaac Kramnick) of Cornell: A History 1940-2015 and over 75 essays and opinion pieces on higher education published in The New York Times, Washington Post, The Hill, Forbes, Inside Higher Education and other media outlets. Glenn has been a celebrated speaker in The Club's history and he is pleased to be a part of the program calendar in our 35th year
