Virtual Studio Visit with Artist Peter D. Gerakaris '03
Visual artist Peter D. Gerakaris BFA '03 welcomes you to an interactive studio visit for a glimpse of his creative process and select projects. As with any in-person session, comments and questions are highly encouraged!
Gerakaris is an interdisciplinary artist whose vibrant paintings, public installations, and origami sculptures tickle the retina and mind by filtering nature-culture themes through a global lens. His artworks have been collected and commissioned by various permanent institutional collections including the National Museum of Wildlife Art, NYC Dept. of Education Public Art for Public Schools, U.S. Art in Embassies Program in Gabon (Africa), Citibank & many more. Having exhibited around the world from the Bronx Museum to the Mykonos Biennale, his works are also found in a spectrum of private collections such as Beth Rudin DeWoody and Cornell Trustee William Lim's (B.Arch. '81 & M.Arch '82) Living Collection in Hong Kong. Gerakaris has also been commissioned to create many public, site-specific installations for Bergdorf Goodman, Cornell Tech, The Surrey Hotel, & the Warwick Hotel Bahamas. He recently completed a 116ft permanent public commission at PS101 (Bklyn) awarded by the NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs Percent for Art Program. Gerakaris also served on the Cornell AAP Advisory Council where he enjoyed organizing and leading various alumni art tours.
Currently, the artist has been awarded the EcoArt 2021 Earth Day Prize with forthcoming exhibits at the Museum of Art & Design, The Bruce Museum, The National Museum of Wildlife Art, and the Berkshire Botanical Gardens.
