Webinar - New York City and Immigrants: East Side, West Side, and Up in The Heights

Immigration has strengthened New York City in recent decades, but the pandemic has hit immigrant neighborhoods hard. Join Rob Snyder, Manhattan Borough Historian, for a look at how immigrants have remade New York and grappled with the pandemic, leaving a record of both hardship and resilience. Our citywide tour will start and finish in the neighborhood chronicled in his book for Cornell University Press, "Crossing Broadway: Washington Heights and the Promise of New York."

Robert W. Snyder is professor emeritus of Journalism and American Studies at Rutgers University–Newark. Most recently he is co-author of "All the Nations Under Heaven: Immigrants, Migrants and the Making of New York".  In 2016, he was a Fulbright lecturer in American Studies in South Korea. Formerly the editor of Media Studies Journal, he also worked at Newsday, the journalism review More, the Tarrytown Daily News, and Channel 13/WNET, the public television station of New York City. Snyder served as a consultant and interview source for National Public Radio's Sonic Memorial project on September 11 and the World Trade Center, which won the Peabody Award.
