Webinar - The Legend of the Tuskegee Airmen with Gordon L. Smith

The Cornell Club is pleased to host a series on Our American History and Black Influencers. We are pleased to kick-off this timely programming with a lecture on the legendary Tuskegee Airmen. This group of African American fighter pilots overcame institutionalized racism from the US government and enormous obstacles from the US military to serve with unparallel military aviation distinction during World War II. Their achievements played a pivotal role in the Allied victory in the European Theater of World War II and led to the desegregation of the US armed forces following World War II. Their courage, dedication and  perseverance despite overwhelming obstacles is a fascinating and inspiring chapter of our American history.

The Cornell Club welcomes Gordon Smith to lead our program on The History of the Tuskegee Airmen. Gordon is an American History graduate of Princeton University and is the son of Luther Smith whom was one of the original and one of the most highly decorated pilots of the group we know as The Tuskegee Airmen. Gordon has spoken nationwide about The Tuskegee Airmen. Gordon will describe the adversity the African American cadets faced in becoming US military aviators, their legendary accomplishments as fighter pilots during the war and their legacy today. Gordon will  additionally feature anecdotes from his father Luther Smith's 133 combat missions.
