SoHo: Neighborhood of Industry, Art & Culture Tour
Explore the historic, architectural, and artistic area "South of Houston" and the neighborhood "North of Little Italy". As we walk through these historic districts we will explore the relationship between 19th century immigrants and the core of New York's industrial center, and how they evolved from "Hell's Hundred Acres" to the most fashionable and creative/artistic parts of Manhattan. Stops could include: Old St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Houghwout Building, 19th century "disorderly houses", and sites associated with Teddy Roosevelt, Keith Haring, Jane Jacobs, Robert Moses' LOMEX Plan, Leo Castelli, Joseph Petrosino, and "The Black Hand".
11:00am tour. $30 per person. Advance reservations required by Thursday, May 16th, at which time they are considered final sale. Attendees will meet at the southeast corner of Spring & Lafayette Streets, in front of the Duane Reade. Subway: 6 to Spring Street station.
