Join The Princeton Club for an enlightening lecture presented by Dana Getman, Principal at SHOPArchitects based in NYC. A graduate of Cornell (BA) and Yale (MA) Schools of Architecture, Dana has perfected the "bottom up approach" of consulting with the community to ensure the creation of a final project that satisfies the needs and desires of the neighborhood. Dana Getman's strength and expertise is in the creation of projects that lie at the intersection of complex city-building and community engagement.

Dana's expertise and leadership is apparent in the creation of the masterplan for Essex Crossing on Manhattan's Lower East Side. Beautifully positioned near the Williamsburg Bridge near Delancy & Essex Streets, this project includes: 125 Essex Street, home to the Essex Market, 242 Broome Street, 202 Broome Street, 140 Essex Street, Frances Golden Senior Apartments, and 180 Broome Street. In addition, "The Rollins" houses commercial space featuring Trader Joe's & Target. There are provisions for social services at Grand Street Settlement and medical care at NYU Langone. Clearly, Dana understands the value of knowing your demographic and understanding their needs. She has created a "city within a city" and enlisted community activism to create a memorable space.

SHOPArchitects other projects have included the design and construction of the East River Waterfront, and 111 West 57th St., a 1,428-foot supertall tower overlooking Central Park, Empire Landing in Staten Island., Concept Planning for New Penn Station, and Seven World Trade Tower in NYC.

Internationally, SHOPArchitects created the master plan for the Fulbright University in Vietnam, as well as earning the contract for the New Embassy Compounds through a global SHOPArchitects contract with the U.S. Department of State. Further, SHOPArchitects has recently completed the National Veterans Resource Center at Syracuse University thereby creating a home on campus to welcome and connect generations and  to foster Community engagement.

In addition to teaching design studios at Cornell, Yale and Columbia Universities, Dana is the Urban Land Institute of New York's vice-chair of the Women's Leadership Initiative, a member of the Urban Land Institute's National University Development & Innovation Council, and a member of the Urban Planning Committee at New York's Municipal Art Society.
