Virtual Tour - The Language of Art: Exploring Identity at the Jewish Museum

Nelly Silagy Benedek '84 joined the Jewish Museum as Director of Education in 2004 and is currently Deputy Director, Education & Programs. She oversees the development and implementation of innovative programming for schools, families, and adult audiences including teachers, university students, and the general public with a special focus on accessibility. She is also in charge of Publications, involved in exhibition planning and interpretation, coordinates the Docent, Volunteer, and Internship Programs, and teaches in the Museum's galleries and online. Ms. Benedek previously served as Director of Education at the American Federation of Arts and, prior to that, was Associate Museum Educator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for sixteen years where she developed educator workshops, taught after school classes for teens and families, coordinated volunteer training, and supervised the High School Apprenticeship Program. Her publications include the teacher resources "Auguste Rodin: The Burghers of Calais" (2000) and "Examining Identity in Contemporary Art and Photography" (2005). Ms. Benedek holds a Master of Arts degree from the Institute of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University where she was a College Scholar and majored in Art History, English, and Near Eastern Studies.
