Remembering Cornell in Paint: Virtual Studio Visit with Charles K. Steiner '73

Join Cornell University alumnus Charles K. Steiner '73 for a studio visit and discussion focusing on the lasting impact of Cornell on his painting. Abstract Expressionism reigned supreme among painting instructors during Steiner's time at Cornell; its emphasis on gesture and color are lasting influences on Steiner's work. Although he does not self-identify as disabled, a second theme to be discussed will be the way that the world of disability has influenced his most recent work, both directly and indirectly, thanks to enlightenment from handicapped friends, colleagues, and relatives.

Steiner's work is included in a number of important corporate and public collections such the New York Health and Hospital Corporation (New York, New York), 3-M Corporation (Minneapolis, MN), Brooklyn Art Library (Brooklyn, NY) and Emprise Bank (Wichita, KS) to name but a few. He has had nine solo shows including at the Performing Garage, New York, New York as part of 10 one-person shows at alternative spaces under the umbrella of "Ten Downtown" 1980, the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ, and most recently at the Fort Smith Regional Airport, Fort Smith, AR where 90,000 people passed through his exhibition! Early in his career, Steiner held two residencies at the Edward Albee Foundation, Montauk, NY.
