Past and Future of the Cornell Prison Education Program by Executive Director Rob Scott

The Cornell Prison Education Program (cpep.cornell.edu) was founded after higher education in prison was eviscerated in the late 1990s. From 2007-2023, the program leveraged private funding to offer an associate degree program in prison, in partnership with local community colleges. Over the last few years, Cornell has taken steps toward offering a baccalaureate degree in prison, and the program has focused efforts on replicating the Cornell undergraduate experience inside prison walls. Come learn about this remarkable initiative, which is one of the most profound examples of "any person...any study."

Rob Scott, PhD is Executive Director of the Cornell Prison Education Program, and an Adjunct Professor with the Education Minor in Global Development. He is also affiliated with the minor in Crime, Prisons, Education and Justice (Government). Dr. Scott has published numerous articles on the school-to-prison pipeline, criminal justice reform, pedagogy and carcerality.
