Opera Season Preview & Performance
Soprano Eve (Seaman) Edwards, '86, Founder and Artistic Director of Delphi Opera, is pleased to present an evening of arias from opera's Golden Age. Eve will be accompanied by classical pianist Joseph Krupa. Additional remarks and commentary regarding each selection will be provided by Jerrold Kalstein, President of Boheme Opera NJ. The program will include arias from operas composed by Puccini, Verdi, Mozart, Bellini and others. The operas chosen include Bellini's most famous work, Norma; Puccini's iconic tragedies, La Boheme and Tosca; Mozart's masterpieces of dramatic comedy, Die Zauberflöte and Cosi fan Tutte; as well as others.
Eve Edwards has performed over 40 leading roles in the operatic repertory. Companies and orchestras with which she has appeared include The Amato Opera of New York, Pennsylvania Lyric Opera Theater, Buck Hill/Skytop Music Festival, Lansdowne Symphony, Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, Delaware Valley Opera, and Piccola Opera of Philadelphia. Eve was the featured soprano in Boheme Opera NJ's concert and The Jewish Experience in Opera. Additionally Eve is the founder of Delphi Opera, producing the company's seasons of operas and concerts. Eve currently studies voice with Harold Evans. She also studied with Roland Fiore, and with Kathryn LaBouff at Cornell University.
Joseph Krupa, Pianist, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University and a Master of Music degree (Piano Performance) from the University of Calgary (Alberta, Canada), plus additional studies at the Banff Centre and Westminster Choir College. Mr. Krupa is collaborative pianist for opera companies, choruses and music theatre companies, as well as for solo singers and instrumentalists. He leads concerts and workshops dedicated to the introduction of classical music and opera to high school and elementary school students. Mr. Krupa has participated in workshops and master classes in Europe, Canada, and the U.S, studying art song with Dalton Baldwin and Martin Katz. His principal teachers have been Willard Schultz, Steven Kemper and Alexander Fiorillo, a former pupil of the legendary Vladimir Horowitz.
Jerry Kalstein has been a Member of the Board of Directors of Boheme Opera NJ for the past four years and President of the Board the past three years. After retiring from a career in business, he has devoted his time to the promotion of operatic productions and the presentation of opera education programs. He has also narrated many opera concerts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and attended opera performances in major opera houses all over the world, including last year, the summer opera festival in Sweden and the National Opera in Copenhagen.
6:00pm cash bar reception, 6:30pm performance, gratis. Members and guests are invited to dine at The Club with Ms. Edwards, Mr. Krupta, and Mr. Kalstein following the lecture. The cost is $40 per person, inclusive of tax, gratuity and one glass of wine with dinner. Dinner reservations are required 48 hours prior to the program. Same-day cancellations and no shows will be charged.
