Ruben King-Shaw ILR ′83 has been and continues to be a leader in the healthcare industry, advising both Democrat and Republican Presidential administrations.   He knows intimately how healthcare is evolving in the US.  King-Shaw will address the impact of healthcare on the 2016 elections, and how Obamacare will likely fare under a Democratic President or a Republican President – as well as what is working today in Obamacare, and what needs to be changed.

King-Shaw served for several years as Governor Jeb Bush's Secretary of the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, managing 20 percent of the Florida state budget and also regulated its healthcare industry, estimated by many to be the second largest after Tourism.  His performance in that capacity lead him to become a key healthcare policy advisor to George W. Bush during his campaign for the presidency.

President Bush subsequently brought him into his administration and as Deputy Administrator and Chief Operating Officer at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services, responsible for overseeing $600 billion in spending.

In 2003, King-Shaw founded Mansa Capital, a healthcare and technology-focused private equity firm based in Boston. He has invested in innovative companies with great growth potential.  Most of these companies apply advanced technology to health administration and care delivery, a burgeoning area of growth.  Ruben has remained active in public service, however, serving on Medicare's Program Advisory and Oversight Committee which provided advice to the Obama Administration and laid the foundation for later healthcare reform legislation.

King-Shaw, ILR'83, holds two Masters degrees, one in Health Services Administration from Florida International University granted in 1986 and the second in International Business from FIU's Center for International Studies in Madrid, Spain in 1987.  He also completed the Corporate Governance program at Harvard Business School in 2009.  King-Shaw is current member of the Cornell University Board of Trustees.
