Lt. Gen. Michelle D. Johnson is the first female head of a major military academy in U.S. history. This marks at least the second time Johnson broke the glass ceiling, after becoming the first woman to lead a class as cadet wing commander before graduating in 1981.  Johnson, was also the first Rhodes Scholar from the U.S. Air Force Academy.

She was appointed Superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy and went on become a command pilot and logged more than 3,600 hours flying hours in C-141, T-41, KC-10, C-17, C-5 and KC-135 aircrafts. 

General Johnson served in the operations Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. She served as an Air Force aide to presidents Barack Obama, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton.  She was also deputy chief of staff at NATO headquarters in Belgium.

General Johnson served as the Deputy Director for Information and Cyberspace Policy on the Joint Staff and as the Director, Strategy, Policy, Programs and Logistics, U.S. Transportation Command.  This will be a rare and special event with General Michelle Johnson who continues to break the glass ceiling.
