There are great beers right in your backyard!  New York is an epicenter of the craft beer, wine, spirits, and cider movement, and there are plenty of wonderful choices from every part of the Empire State.  We will sip and experience different beer styles from different regions while learning the secrets of beer and food pairing.  We will also discuss other aspects of New York's burgeoning beverage industry and all of the information needed to drink local.

Chris Gerling is an Extension Associate in the department of Food Science, located at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva.  He works with the New York beverage industry to create educational programs that support the growth and improved quality of premium wines, ciders, and distilled spirits throughout the state.  He is the manager of the Vinification & Brewing Technology Lab, a research winery & distillery and the New York Wine Analytical Lab, a program that helps wineries with troubleshooting and quality assurance.  Before this position, he made wine at Anthony Road Wine Company in Penn Yan, NY.  Gerling is a graduate of Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 1999 (BS) and 2007 (MS).
