Golf will be returning to the Olympic Games this summer in Rio de Janeiro after a 112 year absence.  The event will be played on a brand new golf course, created amidst all of the chaos widely reported in the run up to the Rio Games.  The creator of the course, Gil Hanse, MLA '89, will be on hand to offer a behind the scenes look at the process, problems, and eventual outcome of creating the stage for Golf's return to the Olympics.

Gil Hanse, MLA '89, is the President and founder of Hanse Golf Course Design, based in Malvern, Pennsylvania.  Along with designing the Olympic Course in Rio, Hanse has been involved in the renovation, restoration, and design of original courses that play host to PGA Tour events as well as being the consulting architect for courses hosting three upcoming US Opens (Winged Foot, The Country Club, and Los Angeles Country Club).  He has also been a part of the FOX Network coverage of the US Open telecast, offering a unique perspective for commentary on architecture and agronomy.  The 1987 winner of the William Frederick Dreer Award at Cornell, Hanse applied the award to studying golf course design in Great Britain, residing in St. Andrews and Oxford.  This Cornell experience has served as the cornerstone for his philosophies and practices in golf course architecture.

6:00-6:30pm reception, 6:30pm lecture, gratis.  Advance reservations required.  Members and guests are invited to dine at The Club with Mr. Hanse following the lecture. The cost is $40 per person, inclusive of tax, gratuity and one glass of wine with dinner. Dinner reservations are required 48 hours prior to the program. Same-day cancellations and no shows will be charged.
