La Boheme has been a perennial favorite with students in Cornell’s “Music as Drama:  An Introduction to Opera” course.  It has also received a variety of stagings across the centuries, from traditional 19th century settings to the recent Boston Lyric Opera's 1968's setting. Come join us to explore this opera together with Cornell’s Department of Music Professor Rebecca Harris-Warrick and Magda Romanska MA ’03 PhD ’06, Boston Lyric Opera dramaturg and professor of dramaturgy at Emerson College.

Professor Harris-Warrick will discuss the choices Puccini made in setting this story to music, including the transformation of the characters from their literary models, Puccini’s effective vocal characterizations, and his masterful use of the orchestra.   Professor Romanska will talk about the multiple ways that La Boehme has been staged and restaged, and how each staging has contributed to the mystique and romantic appeal of Puccini's masterpiece.

Whether you’ve already experienced La Boheme or are new to opera, we welcome you to this interactive discussion!  This opera experience will include a brunch and discussion at The Club, one way transportation to the MET, and tickets in the dress circle to the 1:00pm show.

$175.00 per person.  10:30-12:00pm brunch at The Club and opera discussion with Professor Rebecca Harris-Warrick and Magda Romanska.  12:15pm departure to the MET, 1:00pm show time.  Tickets are extremely limited and considered final sale upon purchase.
