Le Nozze di Figaro, an operatic comedy as hilarious as it is moving, was the product of one of the most brilliant teams in the history of opera, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte.  In adapting a play by Beaumarchais that caused a scandal with its revolutionary take on 18th-century society, librettist Da Ponte had to tone down its topical references, but he retained a mixture of social satire and human emotion that Mozart, then at the height of his powers, brought to vivid life through music.

Join us to explore this opera together with Cornell's Department of Music Professor Rebecca Harris-Warrick.  She will explain how Mozart used Da Ponte's witty text as a springboard for musical characterizations that reveal the nature of each character, highlight the relationships among them, and uncover depths of feeling that go far beyond what the words alone tell us.  Together Mozart and Da Ponte elevated the well-worn storyline of servants outwitting their masters beyond satire into the workings of the human heart.

This fantastic opera experience will include a brunch and discussion at The Club, one way transportation to the MET, and tickets in the dress circle to the 1:00pm show.

$150 (includes brunch and discussion at The Club, one way transportation to the MET, and tickets).  10:30am–12:00pm brunch and opera discussion; 12:15pm departure to the MET; 1:00pm show time.  Tickets are considered strictly final sale upon purchase.
