Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Heights at Sunset Tour

First a walk across the "Great Bridge" -- once the longest suspension bridge in the world --  as we learn about its creation and early history. We'll discuss the work of the Roebling family, the designers of the bridge, and the sacrifice and dramatic story of the immigrant workers who built it. We'll hear about Stephen Brody, the only person originally credited with jumping off the bridge -- and living to tell about it, and PT Barnum, whose spectacular theatrics instilled confidence in New Yorkers to cross the span. Then a stroll through Brooklyn Heights, New York's first suburb, where we will see where Truman Capote penned Breakfast at Tiffany's, the homes of writer Thomas Wolfe and where Arthur Miller romanced Marilyn Monroe. We end at the Brooklyn Promenade to view the magnificent Manhattan skyline at twilight -- only steps from Grimaldi's Pizza, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, The River Cafe and the restaurants and cafes of Montague Street.

The group meets at the statue of Ben Franklin at the corner of Spruce Street and Park Row. The statue is in front of the entrance to Pace University and across from City Hall.
